For example in the begin of the book did not want to leave her mom while she was sick, but then changed.She fought off the yellow fever and help fight off thieves.She saw her grandfather die and she had to burying him,in a public,by her self. Matilda took care of a orphaned girl name Nell,while they both deeply miss there mom.The experience that Matilda went through made her stronger, she went from just want to see her mom to taking of orphaned.
